Photography

I like using photography as a tool through which to experience the present moment. I generally prefer to be a quiet observer and not interfere with my subjects very much. My father was a photojournalist for over 25 years and I think he has influenced me to gravitate toward a more journalistic approach, to capture things as they are. However, I am also very fascinated by formal elements such as shape, value, and composition, which can sometimes create the urge to over-edit or modify the scene in ways that reinforce the meaning I am finding in it. I try to embrace this tension and seek to find balance between the two.
